History

A strong belief in the value of higher education led Evelyn Lund Deck and Errett Deck to create scholarships and program funds in communications and agriculture.  In 1945 Evelyn received her bachelor’s degree with a major in English-Education and a minor in Radio-Speech.  During her undergraduate years, she gained extensive experience in broadcasting at KWSU, heralded as the first public broadcasting station in the nation.  She pursued careers in radio (KFQD, Anchorage, and KIRO, Seattle); in business (owned a restaurant, custom cannery and appliance store); and in federal and state governments (Navy, Air Force, California State Department of Corrections, Washington State Department of Agriculture and Washington State Department of Agriculture and Washington State Board of Tax Appeals).

Errett graduated in 1938 with a major in Chemistry and in 1945 earned a master’s degree in Agronomy.  His efforts in developing legislation for agriculture associations and the regulation of pesticides has earned him many national and state awards.
