Grand Excursions in Spain and Morocco: May 9-23, 2022
This two-week, faculty-led program offers students a chance to gain valuable international field practice and experience. It offers a three credit UCORE course; ComSoc 421, which advances diversity, information literacy, critical thinking, and communication. Students will examine all of these while exploring the richness of Spain and Morocco.
Students will also delve into the intercultural dimensions of Spanish and Moroccan cultures while reflecting on the globalization and historical complexities and colonization of their surroundings. Experiencing culture on a direct level will allow students to grasp the importance of appreciating cultural values, differences and similarities. Students will have the opportunity to research and present cultural dynamics experiences first-hand, creating web-based, social media blogs that incorporate intercultural connections and public relations techniques.
Group excursions will enable greater opportunities for direct connection with local culture. While in Seville we will experience the art of Flamenco in all its intense vibrancy. The archeological and architectural relevance of Seville will also be examined. A visit to Cadiz, an ancient port city, will connect us to the Mediterranean history of Spain through the home of the Spanish Navy. Morocco will grant us an opportunity to examine the Arab and Moorish significance of the region, visiting religious sights while also enjoying the unique experience of camel riding and desert ambiance. Granada and the great palace, Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will link the Islamic and Spanish historical significance ending our journey with this pivotal experience.
