Bruce Amundson has more than 30 years of corporate communications experience having worked first at U S WEST (now CenturyLink) and then Weyerhaeuser in numerous leadership roles. In his most recent role, he led the communications and philanthropic functions at Weyerhaeuser where he successfully managed the team through a series of reorganizations. He also helped Weyerhaeuser migrate all of its internal communications to an intranet-based online news center and increased the company’s use of social media to deliver its messages to external audiences.
Throughout his career, working with media has been a core function of his responsibilities. Bruce has developed and leveraged working relationships with journalists representing local, national and international print and electronic outlets and wire services such as Bloomberg Business News, Dow Jones and Reuters. While at Weyerhaeuser, he successfully placed a front-page article in the Wall Street Journal, handled all media relations related to a successful hostile takeover, and worked with Fortune to develop a photo spread on the Weyerhaeuser board of directors for inclusion in Fortune 500 issue.
After retiring from Weyerhaeuser in 2011, Bruce was named to the advisory board of the Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and has served as a communications consultant to the Port of Seattle. He graduated from WSU in 1975 with a degree in political science and was as a reporter for the now‑defunct Journal‑American in Bellevue, Washington from 1975 to 1979.
