Uses and Purposes:
Recipients: Those considered eligible for scholarships hereunder shall be full time, regularly enrolled students of either sophomore or junior academic standing. Recipients shall be chosen on the basis of his or her “contribution to sports broadcasting” during the preceding year.

The number of recipients and the amount of award to each recipient shall be determined by a committee composed of the dean of the Murrow College or his/her designee, or similar department hereafter established at Washington State University, the members of the broadcast faculty, the managers of KWSU, KWSU-TV, and the general manager of the Radio-Television Services.

Payment of Scholarships: Payment of scholarships hereunder shall be prorated throughout the academic year in accordance with the number of academic terms in each year. Prorated portions shall be made available to the recipient thereof upon completion of registration for each academic term.

Should any recipient fail to so register, then and in that event, said Office of Student Financial Aids shall select one or more alternate recipients, or may, in its discretion, carry forward the unused scholarship monies available to a succeeding academic year for award during such year.

All payments to recipients shall be made through University payment procedures existing at the time of such payment.

History:
Bill Denton was a well known sports broadcaster for KREM-TV in Spokane, Washington. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and received his B.A. in Speech in 1950 from WSU. This fund is being established as a results of contributions made and to be made to the WSU Scholarship and Development Fund by the Inland Empire Sportswriters and Broadcasters.
