History

This fund is established through a bequest from Donald C. Whitworth. Katie Knapp Whitworth, a native of Silverdale, Washington, graduated from WSU in 1940 in communications. She was a longtime teacher and counselor at Cleveland High School in Seattle. Donald was born in Malden, Washington, and attended the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington, where he graduated in engineering. He was a career engineer with The Boeing Company, assuming many responsibilities throughout his tenures, including the design and testing of experimental aircraft. Knowing the value of education and caring deeply for the welfare of young people, they established funds at each of the institutions they attended.
