For almost thirty years, Roger Nyhus (Murrow, 1990) and the company that bears his name have not only had a positive impact on the Pacific Northwest, but on the world. He has focused his work on and opened his home to a wide range of causes from economic, to political, to philanthropic. Recently his talent and dedication have been recognized by President Biden when Roger was nominated to serve as America’s next Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Barbados, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Before his nomination, Roger founded and served as CEO of Nyhus Communications, one of Seattle’s leading communications and public affairs firms, and the eighth largest Native American-owned company in the state of Washington. At his direction, Nyhus recently joined with DH, a Spokane based communications, advocacy, and marketing firm, to form Washington’s only pan-state firm serving top business, government and non-profit clients. Nyhus and DH have a long history of working together, but more importantly, they share a passion for equity centered communication campaigns based on research-driven strategies that will make a difference for their clients and communities. By combining their skills, talents and passions, they built upon their synergy in a manner that moves both companies, their clients, and their personnel to the next level.

After the merging of these two powerhouses, there was much speculation as to what Roger would turn his attention to next, and it seems the President of the United States has provided us with an answer. Though a great honor, the nomination is in some ways no surprise. Over the past three decades, Roger has represented numerous clients in advancing global engagement and people-to-people exchange. He has participated in international trade missions to China, Ireland, Cuba, and the United Arab Emirates. His home, frequently referred to as the Seattle White House, has served as a center for social, political and environmental causes from around the country. More importantly, in his career Roger has served as a trusted adviser to business, government, and non-profit leaders around the world. He was even the longest-serving Communications Director for Washington Governor Gary Locke. Roger’s background, experience and passions all make him perfectly suited to serve in the prestigious role of a senior diplomat for his nation. We at Murrow are very proud to have him as an alumnus, and wish him the best as he forges forward into the realms of international diplomacy.
