I am currently the senior manager of external communication for Providence Alaska, the largest private employer and health care provider in the state. I’ve been in this role for almost 10 years, and my day-to-day tasks include media engagement, social media, website operations, planning, crisis communication, and a variety of other things to support marketing and communication and organizational needs. Prior to this role, I served 24 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Public Affairs Specialist. In the service my work initially focused on journalism and newspaper editing/production, before moving into community relations for a couple of years. The majority of my service time was in media relations, which is similar to what I do today. During my years in the Air Force, I was in the Public Affairs Office in California, Texas, Colorado, Japan, New Jersey, Guam, Kuwait, Qatar, and in Alaska.
