Peter Bhatia joined the Cronkite School last summer after a 39-year career in newspaper and digital newsrooms, the past 20-plus years at The Oregonian in Portland where he served as editor, executive editor and managing editor and where he hired numerous Murrow graduates as reporters.

Bhatia is a native of Pullman and a graduate of Stanford University. Newsrooms he has helped lead have won nine Pulitzer prizes. He served seven years as president of the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and is a past president of the American Society of News Editors. He is a past chair of the Murrow Professional Advisory Board. He and his wife, Liz, who attended WSU, have two children and one grandson.
