Biography
Riley Yuan focuses on scientific and regulatory issues pertaining to the environment, along with indigenous and immigrant communities on the southwest Washington coast, for the Chinook Observer. He turns to journalism after having spent four seasons fighting wildfires, most recently with the Baker River Hotshots. Previously, he interned as a photographer for The Saginaw (Mich.) News and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Timor, Indonesia. A New England native, Yuan holds a BS in biology from Cornell University and an MFA in nonfiction writing from Oregon State University.
