Internships
Students in the Murrow College can earn academic credit for completing an internship – paid or unpaid!
The information below outlines the process of how to get started with earning COM/COMSTRAT 495 course credit. The 495 online course accompanies your internship with weekly reflections that connect your internship experience to career readiness. Internship credit is not intended to replace academic coursework. Please consult with your academic advisor to determine your academic needs.

Next Steps
- Get verification from your supervisor that they will sponsor your internship (part of the 495 application process)
- Prepare a short proposal (part of the 495 application process)
- Submit your application – IMPORTANT: once your internship and credit have been approved and you are enrolled, credits cannot be altered to increase or reduce the amount
- Once your application materials are verified and accepted, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your course registration
- Liability Insurance
- WSU is asking that students participating in internships procure liability insurance. This can be from WSU or another source. The cost is $7.00 for 365 days of coverage. Practicum
Students in the Murrow College can earn academic credit for completing a practicum. This course is a project-based directed study that pairs with an employer sponsored work project. These can be on or off campus and have no hard deadline (includes Parker Dewey Micro-Internships, see below). Practicums and Micro-Internships pair with COM 497 which requires three meetings with the instructor and a career related professional development project that supports student growth. The information below outlines the process of how to get started with earning COM 497 credit.
Micro-Internships
Through these short-term, paid, project-centered experiences, you can demonstrate your skills, explore career paths, and expand your professional network. Unlike traditional internships, these paid opportunities are available year-round, tend to be remote, typically range from 5 to 40 hours of work, and are deadline-driven as opposed to set during specific hours – perfect for students with erratic or hectic schedules!
Parker Dewey is a leader in remote micro internships, working with various industries looking for skills like yours!
