Global, Leading Scholars in Public & Civic Health Research

Murrow faculty are best known for conducting applied research that has broad public and civic health implications. The Communication Institute of Online Scholarship identifies the Murrow College as a Tier 1 program for health communication research concerning advertising, substance abuse prevention (i.e. drugs), and literacy (media literacy).  Murrow College health communication researchers often focus their work on youth, and CIOS recognizes the program among U.S. communication programs leading in this area (Tier 3).

In addition, College faculty members have developed a strong emphasis in media and contemporary issues (Tier 2, CIOS, 2025), which is often focused on Europe (Tier 3) or the Middle East (Tier 5).  Murrow College faculty members also focus on journalism studies, and CIOS ranks Murrow College as a top research program on research related to this area (Tier 3, Prestige Press; Tier 5 Newspaper).
