Dr. Kenji Kitatani

Kenji Kitatani

A ’77 Murrow graduate, he earned Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in communications law and management. At Murrow, he was an Assistant Professor from ’80 to ’82 and Lester Smith Distinguish Professor (on line) from 2005 to 2019. 

In the 1990s, as President of Tokyo Dome Enterprises, he was responsible for bringing the NFL, NBA, Premier League Soccer and The Rolling Stones to Japan for the first time. He also promoted concert tours by numerous global artists, including U2, Madonna, and Michael Jackson.

After serving as Corporate Executive Officer at Sony Group Corporation and EVP responsible for SONY Pictures and SONY Music at its U.S. headquarters from 1999 to 2005, he went on to become President of Avex International Holdings and EVP for Asia at AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), a major U.S.-based live entertainment and venue company. At AEG, he also promoted Celine Dion, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift in Asia while securing construction rights for 20,000 seatarena projects in Nagoya and Osaka.

From 2023 to 2025, he served as Chairman of Warner Music and DAZN Sports Streaming in Japan. He currently holds multiple positions, including Professor and Director at KIT Graduate School in Tokyo and Executive Strategist at the New York headquarters of Warner Music Group.
