A 2018 graduate of the Murrow College of Communication, Doug is a play-by-play sports broadcaster who divides his time between the Palouse and the Tri-Cities.
In fall and winter, he works as the play-by-play broadcaster for University of Idaho women’s basketball, a role he’s held since the 2018-19 season, and also occasionally steps in to call men’s basketball and other sporting events for the Vandals. Taylor also serves as the in-booth producer for Idaho’s Spanish-language football radio broadcasts, the first such broadcasts in the Pacific Northwest.
In spring and summer Taylor calls the action for the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League, working both in the team’s home of Pasco and the other outposts of the only international affiliated minor league of Major League Baseball. Work for the season includes not only describing the events on-field but also preparing the team’s game notes and writing postgame recaps, as well as other duties as assigned.
Prior to working with the Dust Devils, the Parkland, Washington native worked from 2018-2022 at Inland Northwest Broadcasting in Moscow as sports assistant, calling high school sports and co-hosting “Local Sports Talk” on AM 1400 The Palouse’s ESPN (for which he still fills in on occasion). During the COVID pandemic in 2020, Taylor shifted to the station group’s news department as an afternoon news anchor and reporter while sports paused, and previously worked as an on-air music talent for multiple stations at INWB.
During his time at WSU Doug spent time at KUGR – Cougar College Radio, doing play-by-play of WSU sporting events and working behind the scenes in the studios to bring broadcasts over the digital airwaves. His work earned him the 2018 Keith Jackson Award (shared with friend and colleague Austin Getz, now of KHQ-TV) for sports broadcasting at the station.
Doug enjoys the work to strive to continue to improve at the art of broadcasting and giving back by helping fellow Cougs who have interest in doing play-by-play improve and get opportunities to call games.
