Biography
Erick Bengel covers rural and economic issues in Walla Walla and Columbia counties, including in Waitsburg, Dayton and Burbank, for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin. An Oregon native, Bengel spent years working in reporter and editor roles for the EO Media Group in northern and southern Oregon. He initially interned at the EO through the University of Oregon’s Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism and later studied journalism at Columbia University in New York. His thesis, a feature about a Washington cranberry farmer’s effort to save the West Coast’s fastest-eroding shoreline, became the basis of a story published by The Guardian.
