Biography

Cara Williams Fry has served as Northwest Public Broadcasting’s General Manager since February 2022, joining NWPB after 18 years in Public Media on the East Coast and a career in national & local commercial television. Cara is committed to creating and providing quality fact- based news, engaging STEAM education opportunities, creating arts & culture programs that entertain and connect people to each other, and collaborating across WA via community engagement events.

Accomplishments during Cara’s tenure at Northwest Public Broadcasting include securing a new broadcast station in North Central WA, collaborating with NOVA to produce regional science stories of interest and securing 3-years of forward funding for a Community Reporter to live and report in the greater Walla Walla region. Fry also worked with NWPB staff to create a multi-platform, cross departmental team approach to creating content that reflects the communities that they serve. She launched a brand new educational initiative called Explore Together/Exploremos Juntos, which is a free bi-lingual program for children 2-8 years old and their families to explore and engage in STEAM focused hands-on activities.

Williams Fry is a member of the PBS Kids Leadership Council and she’s a Rural Ambassador for NPR’s Alliance of Rural Public Media. She is a founding board member of the Central Washington Community Newsroom and is working to create additional community reporting opportunities across Washington state.

Williams Fry has been awarded multiple national, statewide and regional awards for her work.
Fry is a past Board Chair for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware and the Susquehanna Valley as well as a long time advocate for the Children’s Miracle Network. She devotes all of her volunteer hours to non-profits focused on helping children. She enjoys hiking, biking and field training her dogs.
