The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University is a nationally recognized leader in communication education and research. Named after the legendary broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow, the college upholds a tradition of excellence, integrity, and innovation in journalism, strategic communication, and media studies. Our faculty, students, and alumni continue to shape the future of media and communication through groundbreaking research, ethical storytelling, and industry leadership.
Murrow College prepares students for professional success with approximately 80% of spring 2023 graduates securing employment within six months. Highlights of experiential learning programs and initiatives include:
- The Murrow Innovation Community, which includes digital media labs and our in-house student-run digital agency Crimson Creative.
- Hands-on journalism and media production facilities including $2.2-$4 million in recent studio and facility upgrades.
- The Murrow News Fellowship program, which recently launched with $2.4 million in state funding to support journalism education that increases news coverage of underrepresented communities across Washington state.
- Expanded travel and learning opportunities, including programs in Buchenwald, New York, Los Angeles, Greece, and Peoria, AZ (Spring Training).
- The Rural Reporting Project, which provides hands-on experiential learning opportunities for students by connecting them to reporting opportunities in rural communities.
- The Religion Reporting Project, which provides students an opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures, opening avenues to understanding people and practices from various religions.
- Numerous active student clubs and organizations, including Cable 8 Productions, KUGR Radio and the WSU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
