Janelle Guthrie, APR, Fellow PRSA, leads a small team of communications professionals and provides strategic communications leadership to the Building Industry Association of Washington. Throughout her career, she has served in executive leadership and communications roles for Washington Attorneys General Rob McKenna and Bob Ferguson; Microsoft and Washington’s Senate Republican Caucus, Employment Security Department and Department of Corrections. She served as PIO for the Department of Corrections’ Emergency Operations Center during the pandemic, co-managed national communications for the historic national mortgage settlement and led communications for Attorney General McKenna’s Pillars of Hope campaign to fight human trafficking. A graduate of the Murrow College of Communications at Washington State University – with a double major in communications and political science – Guthrie serves on the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) National Board of Directors and the Public Affairs & Government Executive Committee. She earned induction into the PRSA National College of Fellows in 2017. She won the PRSA Lloyd. B. Dennis Award for national public affairs excellence in 2017, the PRSA Puget Sound Chapter Professional of the Year in 2018 and the Hugh Smith Community Service Award in 2019. She and her husband live in Tumwater with their tabby, Mister Tigger. She enjoys friends and family, golf, travel and admiring beautiful building and remodeling projects.
