Christine Hanon is the digital editor for the 17 Northern California Community Newspapers, stretching from Monterey up to Eureka. She is also a faculty instructor for the Newhouse School Online Masters Program at Syracuse University, helping train the next generation of journalists. As well, she works on contract with the Los Angeles Times newsletter team as a weekend producer. Previously, she worked as a reporter for Capital Community News in Washington, D.C. and on the L.A. Times 2016 Trail Guide election blog. She has interned with USA Today’s mobile team and completed cultural journalism projects in Palestine and Guatemala. In 2016, she received the honor of becoming a FASPE fellow. During the session in Germany and Poland, she learned the value and strategy behind maintaining ethical practices in life and in the professional landscape. Christine has a master’s degree in magazine, newspaper and online journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in music performance on flute from Washington State University. When she’s not busy in her local newsroom, she runs as far as the trails lead, and adventures outdoors with her catahoula leopard dog.
