My career focus has been the production, financing, and distribution of evidence-based mass communication products. Though I have worked for TV stations in Spokane and Seattle, I have spent most of my career as an entrepreneur. As such, I know how to “do more with less” and how to raise money through grant writing and public/private partnerships
The bulk of my career was spent in Seattle.
- Taught and conducted mass communication research while earning my MA and PhD at the University of Washington.
- Partner in a broadcast production company that produced the StepOne city video orientation series for urban centers in WA, OR and CA. We also produced and distributed SchoolScout—a robust online database, hosted by KOMO Television, of 1100 public and private schools in Western WA.
These days I live on a big agricultural research farm in the center of Washington:
- Active in the citizen action group, Fiberactive, that supports the Grant County PUD’s completion of a broadband fiber optic network to every home and business in our county. (80+% complete—the most robust rural fiber broadband in the nation).
- Director of the non-profit, SchoolGuide, a communications initiative (traditional and social media, small and large group presentations, local events) designed to inform and support parents, educators, and school leaders as they make decisions about the opportunities and challenges of K-12 digital education.
Certifications:
Grant Writing, University of WA
Distance Teaching and Learning, University of Wisconsin.
