Northwest Public Radio’s Anna King and editor Phyllis Fletcher have been selected for the national Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. The Sigma Delta Chi Awards recognize excellence in journalism produced in 2015, and it is believed to be the only time an NWPR reporter has been recognized for this national honor.

King and Fletcher’s coverage of the Washington wildfires of 2015 brought the experience home to listeners, whether it was from apples baked on the tree, ranchers looking for their cattle through thick smoke, or women rescuing their horses.

Their stories appeared on “All Things Considered,” “Here & Now,” “The Takeaway” and “To the Point.”

King earlier received a The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation awarded Anna with the Gracie for crisis coverage, as well as naming her outstanding correspondent of the year in public radio.
