Uses and Procedures:
The award is granted to the student who best reflects the characteristics of integrity, dedication, leadership, human concern and who best demonstrates aptitude in and an understanding of the broadcast journalism. Such an understanding would be evidenced in abilities to do both routine hard news reporting, and feature writing/reporting on either radio or television. Knowledge of broadcast news, its promotion and administration must be demonstrated by submission of an essay of not more than 500 words to be submitted with the application for scholarship. The recipient must also have shown good scholastic ability, dependability, and willingness to work above and beyond what is expected of him/her. Those eligible for the Kay Wight Award shall be full-time regularly enrolled in undergraduate students, junior level, at Washington State University, who at the time of the award, are pursuing a course of study leading to a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Communications, in Broadcast Journalism.

This fund shall be administered by the dean of the Murrow College or his/her designee(s).
