Joe Palmquist graduated from Washington State in 1983 and started his journalism career as a sports reporter for the Idahonian/Daily News in Moscow. He has been a deputy sports editor and sports editor at the Idahonian, The Salt Lake Tribune and The Spokesman-Review. He started at the SR in 1988 as the deputy sports editor and was promoted to sports editor in 2003. In 2017, he was named the managing editor. He and his wife, Laurie, raised three boys in the Spokane Valley and then moved to Loon Lake in 2013. They have five grandchildren.
