History:
This fund is established by Kenji Kitatani, a graduate of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication. He holds a Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is an adjunct faculty member at both Washington State University and Indiana University-Bloomington. Dr. Kitatani is a Board Director and president of the U.S. subsidiary of Tokyo Dome Corporation, the largest leisure and entertainment conglomerate in Japan, and is Counsel on International Affairs at Tokyo Broadcasting Systems, Inc., the leading TV and radio network concern. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and books and has produced a variety of documentary, sports and animation programs.

Criteria:
This endowment was established to provide travel and other relevant expenses to students in broadcast journalism, so they may realize internship opportunities in large markets such as New York and Los Angeles.

Dr. Kitatani will be provided with a written report from the dean of the Murrow College that reflects how students benefitted from these funds during the current academic year. Subsequently, the recipient of this award will be expected to provide information following the internship they perform that will be included in the report.

Dr. Kitatani wishes to dedicate this endowment to his father, Fumihiko Kitatani, M.D., who gave him the opportunity to attend the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication.
