Christine Curtis, a Senior Instructor and the Graduate Coordinator in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, knows better than most what it’s like to be a student in the Murrow College. That’s because she was one.

After graduating from as a Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Idaho with a BS in Communication she pursued her MA at WSU. She graduated from the Murrow College in May of 2013 with her Master’s Degree in Communication, having written her thesis in emergency and science communication. In August 2013, she joined the Murrow College Faculty as well as an adviser, working with undergraduate students. In 2014, she became the graduate coordinator, managing three graduate programs there. ASWSU recognized her as the 2015 Staff Member of the Year.

Additionally, Curtis teaches Public Speaking in the Digital Age, Crisis Communication, Environmental Communication and Communication in Global Contexts. While she has administrative, teaching and advising roles, teaching is an important focus, and working with diverse groups of students is one of her favorite things.

Curtis said the collaborative and team-oriented spirit of the Murrow College made a big impact on her while she was in her graduate program and continues to impact her as a faculty member. Within the College, everyone wants everyone to succeed, she said.

Curtis hopes to emulate this message in all her work with students. She enjoys seeing their transition from apprehension to achievement, she said.

She doesn’t enjoy being inactive, so when she isn’t working, she fills her time by playing tennis, cooking, and going to the gym. Curtis is also an avid lover of dogs, especially collies and shelties.
