A new PC laptop with these specifications often costs around $900. A new MacBook Pro with these specifications is around $1500, but it may also be possible to find older models that meet these specifications or less.

External Hard Drive

It is highly recommended that you purchase an external hard drive so that you can save course assignments, especially final projects.  Students are encouraged to save these projects for potential inclusion in their online digital portfolios.

Adobe Creative Suite

We also recommend you purchase the Adobe Creative Suite programs.  You will specifically need the following Adobe programs:  Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, and Audition. Creative Cloud versions of the Adobe applications are available to purchase on a monthly or annual payment plan with yearly commitment.  Students who provide a school-issued email address qualify for reduced rates.  Visit https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/buy/students.html for more information.

Buy or rent

You must provide the funding for your own laptop. This gives you your choice of vendor and equipment. Depending on your circumstances, financial aid may be available.

For purchasing and service questions, visit the WSU CoreTech website. If purchasing a laptop is not an option, the WSU Crimson Service Desk and WSU Libraries rents laptops.
