Biography

Biography

Dr. Michelle Kistler is an Assistant Professor on the teaching career track. She has served in myriad teaching capacities within the Murrow College since August 2018, both in-person and online. Her courses have included Foundations of Persuasion, Media and Society, Risk Communication, Reasoning and Writing, Quantitative Research Methods, Public Speaking in the Digital Age, Youth and Media, Consumer Insights and Branding, Principles of Advertising, Communication Theory, Research Methods for Professionals, and Professional Marketing Communication Management and Campaigns.

Prior to teaching, she was the research project manager for a state-wide, multi-site, multi-year USDA-funded media literacy and nutrition curriculum development project headed by Dr. Erica Austin.

Prior to teaching, her primary research interests included the intersection of media influence, media literacy, and family systems upon the development of adolescents and emerging adults. She has published research in journals such as the Journal of Research on Adolescents, Mass Communication & Society, and JAMA Pediatrics.

Dr. Kistler has also been a coach and recruiter for D-I rowing and is herself a former athlete in the sport.

She holds a Ph.D. in Communication, an M.A. in Human Development, and a B.A. in Business Administration.
